Racing Post Friday April 11th 2014. David Milnes brings news from
Clive Brittain Carlburg Newmarket
“Rizeena given go-ahead for fillies’ Classic
Clive Brittain: “I’ve invented a new dance for Rizeena's victory” .
Brittain has been eying the 2,000 Guineas
as an option for Rizeena, but will now follow the traditional route unless
something drastic happens in the colt’s division” .
“And so confident of success is
Brittain that he has invented a new dance move he hopes to show off for the
first time on the Rowley Mile on May 4. 1,000 Guineas ( 3 year-old fillies)
“Despite being 80, Nwmarket’s senior
trainer can still throw a few shapes, and his Group 1-winning filly has been
just as lively on the gallops in the build-up to the Classic for which she is
now the general 6-1 favourite.
“He said “I’ve invented a new dance
for when Rizi wins. It’s called the tree dance. It’s just like a pole dance but
with leaves!”
“Rizeena is so well thought of at
Carlburg Stables she even has her own personalised exercise sheet and could not
be better nourished as her stable is
next door to the feed room.
“Brittain, who has won the fillies’
Classic twice before with Pebbles (1984) and Sayyedati (1993), said: “I would say Rizeena is on a par
with those two going into the race.
“She has her own sheet to combat the
risk of picking up things from other horses, including ringworm, and anyone who
puts a different one on her gets their arse kicked! .
“Winner of four races as a juvenile , including the
Group 1 National Stakes at the Curragh, the daughter of Iffraaj was narrowly
denied a follow-up at the same level in the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket last
September but Brittain says she had excuses: “We had the race won and then Richard Hughes
came and mugged us on Chriselliam.
Rizeena was over the top anyway that day but at least it proved she
stays the trip on the Rowley Mile. “
“After a trouble- free winter,
Rizeena was given an entry for a possible Classic warm-up in the Dubai Duty
Free at Newbury tomorrow but a workout earlier this week forced a re-think.
“He said: Ryan Moore got off her and
said she would win the next day as she is so fit, so we’ve decided to go
straight to the race.
“After the Guineas we’ll look at the Irish
1,000 and then the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. After that she will be
prepared for the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood and then we could maybe go and take
on the French in October, “
“Among the local opposition lying in
wait at Newmarket
will be Lucky Kristale, who was the subject of an upbeat bulletin from George
Margarcon yesterday despite going into
unknown territory. Margason may have yet to taste glory himself, but he does
have Dickie McCabe , the lad who did Shergar on his books.
“The trainer said: “It would have
been nice to already have had a Group 1 in the bag, but she was forced to miss
the Cheveley Park with a foot problem.
“She’s strengthened out and settled
in her work, so she looks as if she’ll get the mile and Ryan Powell, who rides
her every day, says she’s moving great" .
“The two-time Group 2 winner, a
general 12-1 chance for the Guineas ,
will be heading to the Rowley Mile sooner rather than later.
“Margarson added : “We plan to take
her to Newmarket
for a gallop at the Craven meeting with two others. Tom Queally will be back on
her and we know she handles the track. “

“The combination of Brittain
and Sayyedati’s jockey Walter Swinburn takes a lot of beating. Win,
